Christ Church Lille Newsletter
Dear [subscriber:firstname | default:reader]
As we look forward to some relaxation of restrictions in France, we are conscious that things have changed so much and that our lives, and the life of the church, will not be the same again.
The church council and the communications team have been looking at ways to move forward and what the church might look like in the future. There are, however, no definite answers and we'll take it step by step.
Today is May Day, and the Lily of the Valley is blooming. Nature is thriving in spite of everything!
On 1 May 1561, King Charles IX of France received a lily of the valley as a lucky charm. He decided to offer a lily of the valley each year to the ladies of the court. At the beginning of the 20th century, it became custom to give a sprig of lily of the valley, a symbol of springtime, on 1 May. (from Wikipedia)

New on the website this week

Coming this weekend

  • Thank you to everyone who has sent in a video or photos for our CCL in lockdown video. It should be published over the weekend on our YouTube channel.
  • The Sunday worship service for 3 May will be published on Saturday evening.

A reminder

Monday 4 May is the next Day of Silence and Prayer, full details on the website

What about the AGM?

The church AGM needs to comply with Church of England regulations but the Bishop has issued a special "instrument" saying that this can be delayed until September.
The French government has also issued legislation about delaying AGMs so we comply with those regulations too.
We have a provisional date for a Church AGM on 27 September, more on this later.
What about the Solidarité Anglicane AGM?
The "Solidarité" is our Outreach association (read more on this page) also registered as a French association, but independent from the church.
This means that we can follow the recent French legislation and hold an AGM via Zoom, and we have a provisional date for this on 8 June.
It will still be possible to see all the information and to vote (if you are on the Electoral Roll of the church). More information about this next week.
And what about our 150th celebrations?
As mentioned in a previous newsletter, the initial celebrations planned for May have been cancelled, but we're hoping to plan something for the autumn.
