Dear [subscriber:firstname | default:reader]
This Sunday is the feast of Christ the King and it's the last Sunday before Advent. It's also informally called "stir-up Sunday", because the collect (or prayer) for that day begins: "Stir up, we beseech thee, O Lord, the wills of thy faithful people".
Traditionally, this also reminded people to make their Christmas puddings and cakes!

Nativity Play 2019 edition

A CCL tradition is the annual Nativity Play, and it's like no other! They're busy rehearsing at the moment, so remember to be there on 8 December, at either the morning or the evening service.

Advent

Advent is the time of waiting and preparation for the birth of Jesus Christ. This year, the first Sunday of Advent is 1 December.
One of the traditional practices associated with this season is the Advent Wreath, which you will see in church, and the four candles, one is lit every week until the Christmas candle on Christmas Day.
The service of Nine Lessons and Carols is another traditional part of Advent; we will hold ours on 15 December.
There are special prayers and readings for the season of Advent, and you can find out more on the Church of England website .

Advent Appeal

Something else we try to do during Advent is to help others, and this year we are supporting the Maria Skobtsova House and their work with refugees.
If you'd like to find out more, please visit this page on our website
Please bring your gifts (see the list) to church from now on and they will be delivered to Calais at Christmas.

Finally, we know it was yesterday, but we wish all our friends from USA a Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving is also all about sharing, so please take part in our Advent Appeal if you can, thank you.
