The Reverend Canon Kirrilee Reid has sent us information about how we can help the work with refugees in Calais.
The focus of the Maria Skobtsova House is now more particularly on women and children, read on to see how you can help.
How lovely that you wish to support the work here. We currently have 6 families staying at Maria Skobtsova House with a baby, 2 toddlers, a 13 year old girl and mainly women. The husbands and sons spend time in the house during the day but sleep out in the jungle at night. There are many needs. Given the current context of the police targeting the exiles there is a big need for tents and washable sleeping bags (the ones that can zip up all the way around are best) but on a smaller scale we are in need of washing detergent, underwear (women sizes S, M, L), men (S & M [not L or XL- they tend to be slim men], women’s sanitary products (variety, but no tampons) but it would be lovely to receive one or two special things for Christmas (many are Orthodox Christian) like perhaps fruit cakes or something that will make the women feel special in some way (not bath bombs as we don’t have a bath). No pork products though.
