The summer Olympics start today. Did you know that were originally a religious festival (but not of course a Christian one)? They began in 776 BC and continued until 393 AD and an important element of the games was the Olympic truce - to ensure the host city was not attacked and athletes and spectators could travel safely to the Games and peacefully return to their respective countries.
