We are sad to bring you the news that Alexis Sorokine has died.
Even some of our older members can't remember a time when Alexis wasn't there on a Sunday. He loved coming to Christ Church and found there a warm welcome and friends who cared. He was proud to take on the responsibilities of sacristan, and carried out his duties meticulously and with enthusiasm.
Alexis had no living family, and was, sadly, very much alone in the world, although he had friends in the deaf community, and maintained a lively interest in the world and current affairs. It was the AGSS of the UDAF, who acted as his guardian, who informed us on Monday that Alexis had died at his home last week.
French law requires a burial within 6 days and, as there is no family to make arrangements or mourn him, we at CCL have organised a short funeral ceremony before he is buried in the Lille Est cemetary.
This will take place at 10:30 am on Thursday 10 September.
If you happen to be free and are able to attend, we would be very grateful for your presence as we gather to remember Alexis and commend him to God. Details of how to reach the cemetary and attend the funeral are given below.
We will miss Alexis very much. In his memory, we thought you would like to see this clip from one of our video Christmas cards, when we shared Christmas greetings in several languages. In this clip, Alexis is signing Joyeux Noel.
