Sunday 10 May

The Sixth Sunday of Easter

10:30 a service of Holy Communion, led by the Reverend Elisabeth Dean
If you can, please use the digital service sheet available here 🔗— it’s easy to view on your phone and helps us save a little paper along the way. Thank you for supporting a greener approach! (But printable if you need a paper copy).

Ascension Day 14 May 2026
Over the last 156 years, it's been only on rare occasions that we are unable to hold a service in the church on Ascension Day, which as you know is the day in 1870 when Christ Church was consecrated.
But we hope that on Thursday you will spare a few moments for prayers for the repair and refurbishment of our church after the fire, and for all the people working hard to make this happen.
You might like to see this photo of the church in 1901.
Fancy a little pre-service workout? Can you help?
We’d love a few extra helpers before Sunday worship to set out chairs and prepare the space for the HC table — thank you!

And what's happening in the church?

The electricity and gas have been checked and switched back on; good news for the future and for cleaning works to take place.
But the building is still not safe for general access and is only available to authorised personnel because of the air quality.
The final meetings with contractors took place last week and the Town Hall are adding up the huge cost of the post-fire repairs. We too are in touch with our insurers about items such as replacing the church linen and the white altar frontal, and restoring the various items which came through the fire but are damaged.
Not burnt, but needing specialist restoration, are the two British Legion flags which usually hang in the church. They are currently stored safely awaiting cleaning.
The church council is working hard. Please remember them, and the Town Hall, in your prayers and give thanks for all the help, support and messages we have received. Not least our ecumenical partners and the possibility of meeting in the aumônerie!

Sunday services

As always at Christ Church, everyone is very welcome. The kettle is never far from the boil, the coffee pot is always hot and ready, and of course there will be biscuits — some even covered in chocolate!

Please take a moment to read more on the AnglicanFrance website
