A visit by members of the Maronite church
On Tuesday 1 July, we were delighted to welcome members of the Maronite church, based in Marcq en Baroeul, Mons en Baroeul and Villeneuve d’Ascq. They visited the church, and learnt something of the history of the Anglican church in Lille and ended their visit with tea, cucumber sandwiches and cakes in the church hall. We certainly shouldn’t despair and abandon all Lenten observance until we try…
The tension mounts
This Sunday, the fifth in Lent, is traditionally called Passion Sunday. It marks a slight change in gear as we move towards Holy Week which begins on Palm Sunday (13 April) in a week’s time. The Gospel for Passion Sunday begins ‘Six days before the Passover Jesus came to Bethany …’. For we who already know the story, the tension mounts because we know that it is in Jerusalem that the events of Holy Week will be played out and that Bethany is…
Welcome Reverend Canon Tony Monds
A warm Christ Church Lille welcome to Reverend Tony Monds. He and his wife will be with us from the end of February until Easter. He sent us this information. Tony is married to Jenny, a retired librarian and bookshop manager. He practised as a solicitor in a regional firm rising to become the managing partner. He was ordained as a non-stipendiary priest in 2000 before leaving the law and becoming a stipendiary priest in 2004. After a ‘top up’ curacy at Sherborne…
