A lot of things are going on in the background. We are in touch with the company which is due to clean the church, but before anything can go ahead, the Town Hall is carrying out tests to see if there is lead in the atmosphere. If tests are positive, this will change not just the programme of work and the cost involved, but the timing too.
As a reminder, the Town of Lille will be responsible for cleaning the building, but all the moveable elements, furniture and equipment etc will be charged to Christ Church. We’re waiting for more information and will keep you updated.
We are more than grateful to the Catholic Diocese of Lille for allowing us to continue to use the Aumônerie across the road for our services, while the church building is inaccessible.
We are also grateful to everyone who supports us at this really difficult time: it’s not just a question of financial support, the spiritual support and the friendship of our community and the ecumenical partners is helping us through it.
We are staying positive, the church continues – and after all, the church is the people not the building! Thank you everyone.
